Sewing Projects An Outfit for Dolly

Last weekend my family and I enjoyed the rare pleasure of a trip to the city. With Mr L off to enjoy a show with his Grandmother, we took the opportunity to visit the beautiful Just White toy store in the QVB to let Miss O choose a special doll for her upcoming second birthday.

After firmly rejecting all but two dolls we finally settled on the 44cm Paola Reina doll. Hand made in Spain with an abundance of long brown hair and sleepy brown eyes she truly is a stunning doll that I’m sure Miss O will love for many years to come. And best of all patterns to suit her are easy to find!

My plan is to sew a wardrobe for Dolly using some of the scraps from the outfits I have sewn Miss O to give to her with Dolly for her birthday in May. And with Simplicity pattern 4347 on hand a rainy Australia Day public holiday was the perfect excuse to start.

Using the same Liberty Tana Lawn as for Miss O’s Playdate dress, some simple white quilting cotton along with the most amazingly cute little buttons I made a skirt, a blouse and a reversible cape. I found the Simplicity pattern very easy to work with and was pleased with how well the pattern suited the doll, the only variation needed was to take in the waist band of the skirt. I decided to use Velcro to fasten the skirt and blouse instead of press studs to make dressing and undressing a little easier for Miss O, though I did use a press stud on the cape. I was extremely pleased with just how quickly and easily all three pieces came together, and I am in love the results. If Miss O enjoys her Dolly half as much as much as I am enjoying making her outfits she will be a very happy birthday girl indeed!
